Heidi Armstrong – Our Hearing SpecialistHeidi Armstrong is our qualified hearing specialist.

I began my career in the health sector as a nurse for the Wanganui Hospital in 1976. My 20’s were spent taking care of patients out in the community as a district nurse and then later as a hospital care nurse ­– not to mention raising a family with my husband.

My introduction to audiology began in 1999 when I was working alongside the Wanganui District Hospital’s Ear Nose and Throat Surgeons and it was during this time that I decided to specialise in audiology. I completed my qualification in both a Certificate in Audiology and a Diploma in Hearing Prescription through TAFE in Sydney.

I spent many years working at the hospital, with over 15 of these, running the Audiology Department. The best thing about my time at the hospital was getting to see my clients smile as soon as I fitted them with their hearing aids. It’s that moment when they realise that they can hear the smallest sounds that the rest of us take for granted.

During this time, I was also involved with ANZAI (the Association of New Zealand Audiology Incorporated). I became a full member of the organisation in 2001 and stood as secretary for 8 years, between 2004 – 2012. My involvement in the industry continues today as a full ANZAI member and I regularly attend conferences and training sessions to keep up-to-date and provide the best advice to my clients – this is so important as technology is constantly advancing.

My ultimate goal is to continue improving the lives of our community. I don’t think that people should go without and it’s because of this that Simply Hearing began. I’d like to help more people by providing a prompt and affordable service that is accessible to everyone, not just those with a higher income. 

I love what I do and I think that this shows in the way that I work with my clients. I’m not the salesy type and I don’t push my clients into something that they don’t need or want. My role is to listen to their concerns and advise them on the best options for their needs. At the end of the day, I want my clients to be happy and the decision lies with them – our guarantee also helps with this, as our clients able to return their hearing aids if they’re not happy.
